School Field Trips
Enhance your curriculum with a memorable, hands-on educational cooking experience for your students at The Cooking Lab in Port Washington!
We work with many high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools on Long Island to create lasting cultural and learning opportunities for students of all ages. We have had the pleasure of hosting Manhasset, Wantagh, Port Washington, Long Beach, Garden City, East Islip, East Williston, Bethpage, Locust Valley, Great Neck, New Hyde Park, Cold Spring Harbor, Rocky Point, Plainview-Bethpage and Hempstead school districts and more!!
Whether exploring the science behind cooking or reviewing cooking vocabulary in a world language while preparing a specialty from that culture, students will have a positive and tangible learning experience that enhances their classroom study. Our cooking lessons can include science, math, world language, history, geography, cultural studies, and more: we'll adapt our instruction to your curriculum.
Our fully-equipped kitchen can accommodate up to 24 students. We require a minimum of 10 students. Classes last approximately 1.5 to 2 hours depending on the menu and curriculum goals. We can schedule school groups for morning classes from Tuesday through Friday. As partners in education, our special rate for schools is $60 per student (a 20% discount from our normal rate).

The Senior Health Experience class had an opportunity to spend the day at The Cooking Lab in Port Washington. The course is designed for just Seniors and aims to better prepare them for their transition from high school to the next stage. What better way to prepare them than to give them useful skills in the kitchen at The Cooking Lab. The Cooking Lab provided my seniors with the opportunity to learn and work on knife skills and to safely handle meat in the kitchen. The outcome was an amazing healthy chicken fajita dish that the students then had the chance to enjoy.

Chefs Mat and Michelle are more than great chefs; they are incredible teachers. For our middle school class field trip, they opened up their pristine Lab to 100 students over four days and taught us how to make cavatelli pasta. Michelle shared stories of her family recipe and the value of cultural traditions. It was a great experience, and many students were excited to share the recipe with their own families!
