The Cooking Lab
The Cooking Lab is a culinary school located in Port Washington, New York. Our hands-on cooking classes for adults and children focus on fundamental cooking skills, seasonal dishes and ethnic flavors. Founded by Port Washington residents, Michelle Capobianco and Mathieu Lanfant, The Cooking Lab is designed to inspire creativity and confidence in the kitchen in home cooks of all ages.
Mat is a classically trained French chef from the Ecole Supérieure de Cuisine Française in Paris. Born and raised in Paris, Mat’s 15 years of experience in the culinary and hospitality industries took him from Europe to Argentina and then to New York. Mat took a hiatus from restaurant life to run his family’s business and raise his three children, but his passion for cooking brings him back to his roots to teach at The Cooking Lab.
Michelle is a former-corporate-lawyer-turned-private chef and cooking instructor. Michelle specializes in regional Italian cuisine and has trained in kitchens throughout Italy. Since 2017, Michelle has led culinary tours in the undiscovered region of Abruzzo, Italy. The mother of three growing boys, Michelle is the (modern) Italian mamma who feels most at home in the kitchen, sharing her love of good food and wholesome cooking.
